St. Augustine (21-5) 2: The Hermits handed former No.1 Gloucester Catholic its second loss to a South Jersey program this season in the final of the 44th annual Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic by the score of 8-5. Greg Elfreth had three hits, including his first career home run. In case you are wondering who the other team was, well, that was the Hermits as well and this win made it three straight over Catholic.
Gloucester Catholic (24-3) 1: The loss in the Diamond Classic hurt on a number of levels. The top-seeded Rams now turn to the Non-Public B South playoffs, where they host the winner of Immaculata-Doane Academy in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
Eastern (20-6) 4: The top seed in S.J. Group 4, the Vikings pounded A.C. in the opening round and will host Olympic American rival Lenape in the quarterfinals Friday. Each team defended its home turf during the regular season.
Bishop Eustace (21-5) 5: The Crusaders earned the top seed in Non-Public A South and will host rival Paul VI in Tuesday's quarterfinals. Two of their losses are to Eastern.
Lenape (19-6) 3: The Indians have dropped two of their last three, falling to Bishop Eustace and Cherry Hill East. In between was an 8-2 decision over Toms River North in the first round of the S.J. Group 4 playoffs.
Egg Harbor Twp. (20-4) NR: The Eagles have won 12 of 13, including a 6-5 CAL American victory over top-ranked St. Augustine and S.J. Group 4 playoff games over Kingsway and Clearview. Sophomore P/OF Jordan Sweeney has emerged as one of the state's top underclassmen.
Rancocas Valley (17-4) NR: Led by Tyler Dearden and JoJo Alvarez, the Red Devils are coming off a 4-0 win over Millville in S.J. Group 4. They've won six of their last seven.
Holy Spirit (19-5) 8: The Spartans have won 11 of 13 and will host Wardlaw-Hartridge in the opening round of the Non-Public B South playoffs Friday. A loss to GC in the Diamond Classic quarterfinals should prove to be a learning experience.
Shawnee (19-6) 5: A strong season came to a quick end as the Renegades lost 2-0 to top-ranked St. Augustine in the Diamond Classic semifinals and then fell 5-1 to Jackson Memorial in their S.J. Group 4 opener.
Audubon (22-4) 9: The top-seeded Green Wave bounced back from a loss to Sterling with a 12-0 win over Wildwood in the opening round of the S.J. Group 1 playoffs. A 4-3 victory over Colonial rival West Deptford followed. They host Woodstown in Friday's quarterfinals.
