St. Augustine Prep, ranked No. 4 in the Courier-Post Top 15, took advantage of two throwing errors in the bottom of the ninth inning to escape with a 2-1 victory over upset minded Egg Harbor Township in a Cape Atlantic League baseball game on Wednesday.
Cody Sadremelli reached first on an error to open the ninth and moved to second base when Joe Gatto drew a walk. Mike Vasturia, who picked up the win, hit an infield ball and in a double-play attempt, the ball sailed into the outfield, allowing Sadremelli to score the winning run.
The Hermits knotted the score at 1-1 when Sean Carew singled home Jarred Hodges in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Vasturia threw all nine innings, striking out 11 and allowing no walks and scattering six hits.
Egg Harbor Township’s Austin Fottrell took the loss in a nine inning performance. Fottrell went 2-for-4 for the game and drove in the Eagles’ only run in the first inning.
